Eric, Class of 19 – Purcellville Senior Portrait Photographer

Eric is a Class of 2019 senior guy at Loudoun Valley High School and came for his senior photos in late April. We took advantage of the session timing and the great weather to get images he and his parents love!

Eric was a little shy at first, but once he understood I wasn’t going to make him do anything he didn’t want to do, or force him to say cheese and smile (LOL), we were able to get a lot of great images of Eric for his parents.

Senior pictures for guys can be tricky – but I love it when at the end of a session with a senior boy the boy turns to me and says “hey, that was better than I expected”, or “I actually enjoyed it” – I’ll take both of those for the win!

For most senior boys, they just want to know someone will get the images, quickly and painlessly – so their parents will be happy. Making sure parents are happy is a high priority to me with seniors, but I also need the senior to walk away happy – because I want the senior boy to tell his friends that working with me a good experience.

Senior Guy Photos – keep them happy and comfortable

To that end, I want senior boys to bring outfits they are comfortable in, in addition to what mom wants them to wear. Often times, letting them wear something they are truly comfortable in, like jeans and a favorite t-shirt makes the perfect outfit for senior photos for guys. It almost always works to let them have their favorite, and feel great, and then we get some of the outfits mom wants too.

Changing clothes in a senior session can be tricky. Public parks don’t often have a convenient place to change, so some photographers will use a pop up tent, or even have clients change clothes in their cars. This is one the main reasons I don’t get excited about going “on location” to public locations for senior photos. My own portrait park has two changing rooms for seniors to change their outfits during sessions. Both have full length mirrors, and are outfitted with items that are sometimes forgotten, like hair pins, safety pins, clothing tape, lint brushes, etc.

Putting those changing rooms in for seniors was a really important thing for my business – I know if they can change in comfort, they come out of the changing room looking better. And are less frustrated…which, with senior boys is a big deal. Keep them happy, keep them going.
